Mission Report from Odesa Region

In October, another mission of mobile ophthalmic care #MOС took place in frontline areas. This time, we travelled to Odesa region.

Key results of the mission:

• 4.5 days of work;

• 300 patients examined;

• 161 pairs of glasses provided;

• 169 bottles of eye drops provided.

We had a clear appointment schedule, but many patients came to us twice: first for their own examination, and then again to bring their family members and children.

Of the 300 people we examined, only 10% had no vision problems at all (hooray!).

For 95% of those examined, the main issues were eye fatigue and dryness caused by working on laptops and other devices, reading paperwork, and working in poor lighting conditions.

During the examinations, patients compared their diagnoses with one another, calculated an average “level of vision,” and checked who could see best with dilated pupils.

Most people did not give their consent to be photographed. So we took pictures of eyes, hands, little details — and, of course, cats.

Luckily, there were about a dozen cats.

They made the atmosphere feel warm and welcoming: before their examinations, both adults and children would pet the cats and calm down a little before the procedures.
