Imagine being asked to join a project about dignified aging. The geriatric sphere is a topic that remained out of the public eye before the war in Ukraine, is not visible now and will most likely not be in focus afterwards. We understand that the topic is far from the daily concerns of people at war. However, should it disappear?

Absolutely not. After all, we can see how residents of state-run geriatric homes change when they receive attention. We talk not only about the elderly but about those who need constant care due to various life circumstances. Today we want to tell you about a special project that our foundation has joined as a general partner.

The Providing Glasses project. What is it?

The initiative was launched in the fall of 2023 by the team of the Let's Help charitable foundation. It is working to make dignified elder care in Ukraine a reality.

This project emerged as a response to the following challenges:

  • Residents of retirement homes need to undergo regular medical examinations. However, it is difficult to transport elderly people. Many find it difficult to walk even with a cane, and often patients move around in wheelchairs.

  • Vision problems make reading, walking, and everyday self-care difficult. Properly fitted glasses return joy and comfort to their lives.

Therefore, the Let's Help charitable foundation is implementing a project that allows residents of state geriatric institutions to receive on-site examinations by ophthalmologists and subsequently glasses with the diopters that are relevant to them.

How does it work?

  • Let's Help organises visits to retirement homes, currently in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regions.

  • The See the Victory charitable foundation provides equipment for ophthalmic examinations and cooperates with doctors from the Eximer and Novyi Zir ophthalmology centers, who examine the residents of the care homes on site.

  • Based on the results of the examinations/prescriptions/recommendations, Let's Help purchases glasses and medicines, then delivers them to the patients.

Project results (since October 2023 to date):

  • There were 14 visits

  • 330 patients examined

  • 230 pairs of glasses were purchased during these visits

Our foundation is happy to join the Let's Help initiative and help take care of the eyesight of residents in geriatric nursing homes.

With best wishes,
